People with high cognitive ability are more in favor of free speech. https://heterodoxacademy.org/social-science-freedom-of-speech/ …

It's not just on the right that the stupid are getting the upper hand. Now it's happening on the left too.

I try not to see people through the lens of stupid and not-stupid, but being such a handy excuse certainly makes it difficult some days.

The concerted effort to undermine widely accepted facts/encourage ignorance, anger, and fear originated on the right with the likes of Fox News and other propaganda outlets.

This was always my fear, I saw the far left as much more radical and stronger than the far right idiots.

It is only natural that such will happen in what has become a spectator sport.

Couldn’t agree more! If I ever run for office, I’m running as a pragmatic moderate dedicated to making politics boring again.

Given the constraints on free speech in the academy, I doubt the conclusions presented here. cc @primalpoly

Notice 'Freedom of Speech' is here defined as 'open debates' - so, that rather suggests (or for me, implies) that we are not talking about absolute freedom of speech - the right to use words to stir violence or hatred or shout 'fire' in a crowded theatre. That's important.

How did they operationalize being "in favor of free speech" in the study? If it's the classic American definition of "the should not punish citizens for expressing their opinions", I don't know of anyone on the left (or the right) calling for the state to limit free speech.

Isn’t trying to get people fired aka “cancel culture” punishing free speech? Or screaming at Facebook to take down posts? Or shouting down comedians on college campuses? That’s happening and picking up steam at a worrying rate.
