Some founders can be convinced by rational arguments. For example, you and Patrick can. But there is huge variation in this, and it's highly correlated with how the startups end up doing. http://paulgraham.com/word.html

8 years on do you still find this observation to be true? Did you never meet founders that struggled to close a lead you sent them but turned out to build a killer product and successful company?

Yes, this is a solid trend. I'm sure some leads have dried up, but you can never tell for sure why; sometimes the investors change their own minds.
