In giving business advice to founders, I'm skeptical of my ability to change people's views. I now settle for priming them to discover an idea themselves.

Funny enough, I watch a lot of competition cooking shows, and the degree to which people are open to feedback from their coach is a pretty good predictor of who gets far in the competition. Almost all stubborn folks are gone mid-way in each season :-)

One common “issue” is that there can be multiple distinct, yet all rational, arguments/plans/paths to success. I think I would lean more with Talib here in that advice is often just a retelling of particular situation. There are broader truths within, but should not be literal

8 years on do you still find this observation to be true? Did you never meet founders that struggled to close a lead you sent them but turned out to build a killer product and successful company?

Yes, this is a solid trend. I'm sure some leads have dried up, but you can never tell for sure why; sometimes the investors change their own minds.
