I puzzled over how that could be true of such an abstract statement for a full minute before I realized you meant this as another example. (At least I hope you did...)
I think though that when people use these weaker phrases, they don't realize that they implicitly agree with the statement they're criticizing. They just think e.g. "not a good look" without realizing that if that's the worst they can say about it, it must be true.
They don't CARE if its true. They are telling you that you are disagreeing with a tribal or higher status position that they hold, and using social pressure to push you towards that view. Truth does not matter to them.
Disagree. Sometimes the author is missing key context.
So while something may be able to be argued as "true", the author is ignoring a whole swath of contextual data. For instance, author may be abstracting the argument to a degree that is not really applicable to the reality of a situation.
I guess you mean they imply that the inarticulate person knows what's being said is true (?)
I think those lie on a spectrum between fully self aware (“You’re not wrong Walter...”) to partially self-aware (bizarre distinctions between “factually” and “morally” corrrct) to the fully non-self-aware forms you’re discussing.
