Preparing kids to become startup founders by having them do pitch contests is like preparing kids to become pilots by having them run around the room with their arms stuck out, making whooshing noises.

It can happen, but the probability of it happening is so low that most founders would be ill-advised to make this the default plan. My advice would be to only consider this route if you're an amazing con artist, and that if you're not sure if you're one, you're not.
