I didn't focus much on how to decrease or mitigate polarization. I was just trying to understand the causes of it. But it's time now to start thinking about how to deal with it, or God knows what the US will look like in another 10 years.
Decreasing polarization itself will not seem as exciting as dealing with the specific problems that we have polarized responses to. But it could be more important, because if we don't fix polarization, we could lose the ability to respond effectively to any other problem.
So if you're the sort of person who likes to work on really important problems that other people overlook, this would be a good thing to focus on. And you'll find there's lots of room for new ideas, because we've barely begun to think about it.
There is too much of an incentive to have an extreme point of view, rather than to have a reasonable one.
A common enemy is a classical example of redirecting opinion.
Most of the brightest and best politically connected minds do not see a path to avoid further polarization. Many factors involved, but the size and incentives of a two party system favor even more divisiveness.

I think 1984 is such a great book because every nation can see part of themselves in it. To me, the more the left hated @realDonaldTrump the more I liked him. Russiagate hoax? Phony quid pro quo? No matter what he did, he was a thought criminal. And I liked him even more for it.
In person interaction is the only way. And then not only with those you have selected through your online bubble. You need chance meetings, frank exchanges etc?

Social media has contributed To polarisation & creating these ideological bubbles & we can’t ignore actors like Putin & other forces who r deliberately sowing polarisation in societies across ethnic/ racial/ sectarian fault lines.
