I didn't focus much on how to decrease or mitigate polarization. I was just trying to understand the causes of it. But it's time now to start thinking about how to deal with it, or God knows what the US will look like in another 10 years.

Decreasing polarization itself will not seem as exciting as dealing with the specific problems that we have polarized responses to. But it could be more important, because if we don't fix polarization, we could lose the ability to respond effectively to any other problem.

So if you're the sort of person who likes to work on really important problems that other people overlook, this would be a good thing to focus on. And you'll find there's lots of room for new ideas, because we've barely begun to think about it.

They say “the left has cultural power, the right has political power”. I wonder if that untenable state of affairs has existed at any other time in history.

not being a history guy, im guessing that this state of affairs existed in the teens and twenties. the thing is, that was so long ago that the politics is hard to compare.
