Another version is that optimizing for growth this week is good when you're pretty sure you're building the right thing. (And in any case, forced to pick between too much short-term focus and not enough, I'd rather make the former error.)
It's good when you're building the wrong thing too, though, because nothing shows you that faster than customers refusing to buy.

How's that a factor? What if you have a great product or service but not necessarily reaching enough people or even the right people or not reducing risk inducing people to buy?

Yes! the only things that is hard to measure growth on pre-product market fit because you are still trying to figure out what to grow.
