I think this is not merely a case of something being complicated and thus hard to judge. The way Twitter works makes it hard to judge. It increases the amplitude of the waves, which makes it harder to tell whether the average point is above or below the x axis.
It's slightly alarming to think what the Twitter replacement might be like. Will it increase the amplitude even more, till the vibrations shake society apart? Or will some social antibody kick in and make users prefer something that doesn't jerk them around so much?
There needs to be a replacement to this ASAP
In a world of niches and people hoping to only see their niches, Twitter is a breath of fresh air ready to show you all kinds of bubbles if you're even remotely open to it. Any replacement needs to fill the big shoes of not perpetuating customized bubbbles.
so true. and it never ceases to amaze me how most of my followers follow the same people i follow. my account is such a bubble that the world looks like a small place. then i discovered COVID-19 twitter and fin tech twitter recently, thnx 2020, and they are complete bubbles too

Things needs to be checked at each step
It’s effectively a public debate forum - liars, trolls, and mobs make it inherently less valuable
There are some simple product features that if launched would make its net value + • don’t display # of favs/RTs • More sophisticated settings on Replies, enhancing conversations rather than e-mobbing • Mirror feature allowing you to follow the timeline of others
The first one would be absolutely game changing. Twitter needs to at least experiment with this. Posters should still be able to see likes/rts, but no one else.
