I don’t think that’s entirely true. Since Reagan, it seems to me that the right in the US has been more effective at holding together a voting coalition. And I don’t know why that is.

May be because the right is _conservative_, i.e. more of the same, no need to invent, But the left is usually trying for something new. So the left must fight the right, AND invent, & thus dispute amongst itself But interesting PG says "we" for the left!

Right wing movements are often driven by identity and nationalism instead of reform and revision. The former is a stronger glue. I wouldn't essentialise 'the left' as the current US progressive zeitgeist, though.
