VCs talk about pattern matching but IMO the secret to being a good VC is feature selection, not pattern matching. Finding good investments is less about seeing if someone matches a pattern & more about figuring out which attributes matter. Pedigree isn't one of those attributes.

Pattern matching sounds more like- Founder being Stanford/ivy grad (pedigree), previous investors, city the startup operates from, co-founder dynamics(if they were college roommate or coworkers someplace in the past), some benchmark traction/
in specific industries, etc...Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Literally if an algorithm is designed to find patterns amongst some responses, it uses a set of attributes!

Don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. Macro pattern recognition (i.e. market trends, exponential technologies) Micro attribute recognition (i.e. grit, resourcefulness, experience)

It is, but I think the specific things that a VC pattern matches for is more of a differentiator than the pattern matching itself. Also when people complain about pattern matching, I think they're usually complaining about feature selection.https://twitter.com/lpolovets/status/1269782986418827266 …
