If this article by Trump's former director of communications is right, Trump is literally playing by McCarthy's playbook. His mentor, Roy Cohn, was also McCarthy's right hand man.https://www.express.co.uk/comment/expresscomment/1292461/Donald-Trump-Anthony-Scaramucci-american-president-news …

It's remarkable to think that one person could be the nexus of evil over such a long period – almost 70 years – but if anyone could, it would be Roy Cohn.

That's what I wanted to say. Thanks. They're all playing a similar game, and no one it would seem is eschewing Lenin's playbook at this stage. All that is good for the cause is moral and permitted, all that is bad for the cause is immoral.

Trump sounds like an incompetent CEO more than anything else

He was in fact a thoroughly incompetent CEO, but is quite competent at the things our broken political system requires of a leader, other than crisis management. He would not be in political danger were it not for the multiple crises he happens to be facing.

You watch ideological persecution from the left in every institution for your entire life, but when people from the right use it to defend the most basic elements of civilisation you draw the line. And btw, McCarthey's error was not going far enough.https://www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/irving-kristol/the-web-of-subversion-underground-networks-in-the-u-s-government-by-james-burnham/ …

Not same playbook, they must have learned lessons from experience.
