People who think that reallocating funding towards police training will change anything must be the same people who think public education’s main problem is insufficient budget.

Unless the money is used to make the training longer. In Norway police training takes 3 years, and the mere length of it apparently filters out some people you really want to filter out.

Paul, not sure it is logical to compare a county with 5.3 million people to the US. Not only because Of size, but because of culture and demographics.

The US and Norway are certainly different in many respects, but 3 years is the same length in both.

It is similar in Germany, that is 15x bigger than Norway, the idea scales up just fine

Same with US colleges (before covid) The sheer length of 4 years causes a lot of people to drop out

What makes anyone think the dropouts would be the future bad cops? Consider the environment they work in, no matter how long they trained. There is a huge difference in training “enactments” and real bullets being fired at you.

I agree with the dropout theory. I can agree with the scale, so could it have something to do with our culture. Are we too accepting, too permissive? I have no answer or theory. Just a curious person😊

Not sure how it works in US but isnt police managed at state level or even city ? In that case prob oughta compare Norway to one of the states sizes not all US. Also larger size means more complexity so if anything youd want longer train in US rather than smaller countries no?
