That is exactly why it's important for people not to cluster together in opposing tribes. It was factionalism that got us here in the first place, and the increase in factionalism under Trump has only made things worse.

It sounds like what you're saying is that it's bad to be an intentional moderate. That is in fact one of the main theses of the essay, which I recommend you read.

A tribe here is identical with a set of beliefs. Clustering into one means adopting their beliefs when you wouldn't have otherwise. So what you're saying is that you can reasonably adopt beliefs that you believe are false. Surely that is the opposite of reasonable.
