One thing I didn't realize till I had kids is that when kids fail at something, it's more often because they get upset at doing badly than because of actual inability. If you're not careful, this tendency can continue well into adulthood.

My first daughter, now 3 years old, is exactly that way and we don’t know how to help her . When she gets upset, she leaves whatever is doing, but that way she’s never going to learn. The younger, just 1 year old, tries and tries and tries everything
When they get older you can tell them explicitly about the phenomenon, but at 3 about all you can do is say encouraging things in that special kid-calming voice you use in these situations.

It helps to praise kids for effort instead of inert ability. “You worked very hard on this” is a better praise than “You’re so smart”
