Always make up your mind about each question. But there are times when you need to pick a side, and fight like crazy for everything you hold dear. Don't get caught in no-mans land in those times.
As a practical matter you may need to ally yourself with those you disagree with about some questions. You probably have to in every presidential election. But I think you should maintain a sharp distinction in your mind between that and actually sharing their opinions.

As long as there are actually are elections. A smaller % of Germans voted for Hitler in 1932, then Americans voted for Trump in 2016. And yet, after the Reichstag fire and the SS "monitoring" the vote, Htiler got re-elected in 1933. Still with only 44% of the vote.

I think you should maintain a sharp distinction between not sharing some of "their" opinions, and fighting passionately alongside them to protect everything that you hold dear.
