If your opinions accidentally put you half way between "protesting against police brutality" and "military invasion of urban america", then you need to revise those opinions.https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1268854001812025345 …

I wrote this in December but it seems particularly relevant now. You don't have to choose between right and left. http://paulgraham.com/mod.html

You appear to be saying that it's bad to be an intentional moderate, which is in fact one of the main points of this essay.

Agreed. Intentional moderation is always either dumb or badly-intentioned. But there are times in history when accidental moderation is also wrong. The 1940s where one of those times - the US was actually allied with the communists. This is also one of those times.

There are times when it's wrong to make up your own mind about each question?

Always make up your mind about each question. But there are times when you need to pick a side, and fight like crazy for everything you hold dear. Don't get caught in no-mans land in those times.

As a practical matter you may need to ally yourself with those you disagree with about some questions. You probably have to in every presidential election. But I think you should maintain a sharp distinction in your mind between that and actually sharing their opinions.
