I've always found it strange that people choose sides. I'm surprised more people don't think that all politicians are a bunch of corrupt idiots and allow their critical thinking skills to a delegated to a political party. Make them work for your vote!

Agreed. Intentional moderation is always either dumb or badly-intentioned. But there are times in history when accidental moderation is also wrong. The 1940s where one of those times - the US was actually allied with the communists. This is also one of those times.

Insightful essay. A small counterpoint: I like to think of myself as a moderate. But it's a label I don't care to defend. Because while my values and ideals have largely remained the same (if anything, drifted to the right), many would now brand me a leftie. 1/2
