Thank you, Paul. It’s hard to stand one’s ground as a moderate these days.

do you want distributed ownership/control of capital, or centralized ownership/control of capital?

This is very good. I think it bears mentioning that "right vs left" and "Democrats vs GOP" are different axes. The parties are not equivalent in terms of their commitment to the rules of the liberal democratic game. (Not saying you conflated anything, it's just often conflated.)

Indeed. I'm reminded of
@EricRWeinstein's observation that the left-right axis is too simplistic for high-dimensional real life.pic.twitter.com/c99F2cVCiK

It's similar to a projection from a higher-dimentional space onto a measly 2-dimentional grid. A lot of information is lost in the process.

You don't... but you'd also be less accurate about issues in current affairs. Ideological stances tend to take place due to Crowd/anti crowd effects. Minority Games show that the more consistent you are in an extreme choice, the more you win. That's basically what this is.
-
For example you may disagree with Marx's solutions... but he's consistently been proven right in terms of his critique of capitalism. Ideologies are a sort of tool to help one navigate Complex Systems. Not sure if you can really become an intentional moderate...

This is right on - and something I have noticed is that *both* sides want to jam you in to the other camp if you ever disagree with them. I am a believer in a strong social safety network + strong public institutions. I *also* run a startup, and intend to be insanely successful

When I talk about the need for good public schools & accessible healthcare, the amount derision I get from strong (R) identifiers is heavy. When I talk about how impressed with Bezos etc, out come the 'burn the plutocrat' placards on the (D)
