At a guess: Trump is much more incompetent than LBJ and will pour gasoline on the fire instead of water. If the riots of the 60s were anywhere close to being enough to end democracy, this will do it.

I hope he's wrong, but I think the mainstreaming of Critical Theory may contribute quite a lot. It warps the fabric of society in on itself in ways that make it difficult to escape cycles of perpetual outrage, once prevalent enough. It's an ideological black hole.
