I worry that George Floyd’s murder feels a lot like the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand that stated World War One. The tinderbox this time is structural inequality + recent super high unemployment from covid (esp. concentrsted in low income populations)

If it makes you feel any better, the reason that assassination led to war was not any authentic "tinderbox," but simply that the German General Staff was afraid of Russia and looking for a pretext to start a war with them before they got any more powerful.

The point is that the table was set and the world was waiting for a match to be struck. Not the reasonableness of the “justification” Inequality and Racisim is the long-drying wood, COVID assembled the fire in the pit, this feels like it could be the ignition.

It may be accurate to say that the riots in the US now are due to widespread, built up tension. I'm just saying that wasn't the case with World War I.
