My guess is it wouldn't look that different as a user. There would be roughly the same social networks, just with different names. Facebook itself would have withered on the vine, but there would be something else that took its place.

What would Zuckerberg create next? Wouldn't it be more grander... More awesomer....

It's a fallacy that if person X did not create a technology then it would not have existed at all. Much like life, technology is invented to fill the logical evolutionary niches that meet user desires/needs and problems. If not this technology then that one.

I agree. I believe that innovation is inevitable, it's just a matter of who does it first. e.g. Somone would have definitely figure out relatively by now if Einstien never existed.

There would be another Facebook, but whoever founded it may not have acquired Instagram and WhatsApp like Zuckerberg did. Even among top CEOs he seems unusually bold at acquisitions, maybe because he himself is an example of what happens when buyers think too small...

The sad story of MySpace is a good guide to what would have happened to FB

Nah seems unlikely imo. MySpace died mainly cuz of their technical debt. FB would’ve most likely failed because of the bureaucratic nature of Yahoo. Yahoo also didn’t care about UX. Which is why they loved owning the frontpage of the internet vs. copying Google

Yeah you think that? Interesting. Could be. I wonder if we wouldn’t see more ferocious competition with multiple winners. On 2nd thought.. cuz of network effects esp in early 00’s, seems likely we would’ve had another monopoly/oligopoly.

Or maybe Yahoo would be as big as FB and Google combined (and Google would have withered on the vine). No?
