If you can make it an advantage to do abuse prevention well (rather than simply shutting down a superset of abuse), you can compete with Google.

I'm skeptical that the competitive advantage from fewer false positives in abuse prevention is enough to be significant compared to Google's advantages. I just don't believe it matters that much. Even if I share the goal.

As someone who's been deeply frustrated by the false positives on spam for quite some time, I can say that I can absolutely imagine a replacement to gmail (ideally libre software that one can either self-host or pay for a service of) being something I'd clamor for. Common Lisp??

“Your product needs to be at least 10x better” this is only true for this use case for (at best) niche interests and (at worst) conspiracy theorists and actual abusers. You could be 10x better and launch gab or you could have a 2x better prevention product that no one uses
