Something I didn't realize till I explained it to my kids: shopping malls were like Amazon when they were first invented. You could buy everything (by 1975 standards of everything).

No, that they knew. But they were surprised when I told them people used to come in buses from Canada to shop at our local mall, which for a time was the biggest in the US (and thus presumably the world).
