it took me 15 years to finally understand this: if a reviewer or reader doesn't understand something i wrote, that is on me, not them. even if the text makes perfect sense to me, it needs rewriting.

They don't want to. They're just lost. Too much fear has led them to run and hide from truth. Their bias is set behind a door in their ego. But it can be unlocked. The key is love.

Depends if your audience *actually* consists of unbiased people (which is rare). My founders and I always went by "If a VC or a user doesn't get it, it's on you to change your messaging to fit the audience. There always exists a right selection of words." It put the onus on us.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I wonder if this is also true: "change your audience to fit your messaging" I think that sometimes it may be easier to find the people with whom the message resonates than trying to say it in a way that doesn't resonate with us

Of course that's true sometimes, but it's a bad assumption to make, most people want to understand what they are reading.* Try a different explanation, not everybody has your priors. *Twitter is an exception to this rule.

Pick your target audience before, not after. If you miss them, that’s on you. If you find yourself dissatisfied with the results even when you hit your target, that’s on you. If you hit it, and are satisfied, please teach me your archer monk ways.
