I appreciate what the internet has turned in to, but I wish there was still a space like the 90s Internet full of academics and enthusiasts. For a while 10 years ago this was twitter.

The issue isn't creating "another alternative" - we see that this alternative becomes subsumed into the broader internet we see anyway, and that dilutes the whole experience anyway.

When the same thing has been created and corrupted a dozen times, generally it implies an issue with the core idea. The "group of enthusiasts" is code for "like-minded people". If it is successful, it encourages change through new members. If it doesn't, it atrophies. Lose/lose.
