          I agree. India is running a same campaign of boycotting China, while happily (and somewhat unknowingly) most Indians are using @Paytm which is mostly owned by Chinese firms. Nothing wrong with it, but people are bad at putting money where the mouth is.

          I would argue that for people looking to vote with their feet, boycotting Chinese brands is a valid option. Even if the non-Chinese brands use Chinese components, it could relegate China to a spare parts economy from a 'Brand Economy'. (1/n)

          1. Brands tend to enjoy higher margin than components. 2. Brands have a cultural cachet that adds value to a country. Think about Toyota, BMW, Jaguar, Boeing, Ford, Apple etc. 3. A lot of great brands => pop culture => soft power. Think Pepsi, Levis, McDonalds. (fin)
