No one chooses truth over survival. It's not sad, it's reality.

Been gone for decades. News is now all news-entertainment instead of news-information.

This is a saddening view that I’m afraid is spot on. Newspapers are following in the footsteps of talk radio, cable TV and social media. All being neutral will get you is run over.

"The old idea of a politically neutral newspaper of record is long gone." In a post-covid world, that idea could be viable again. The business model would have to be crammed down to fit within the new parameters, but hiring honest journalists to work from home might still fit.

That’s like saying we could go back to cannons and muskets, even though we have nukes now. As long as others are using the outrage business model, they’ll be at a huge disadvantage.

i used to enjoy Yahoo! as a neutral news aggregator, but over the last year or so they’ve pulled more and more of their content from progressive outrage rags like HuffPost, Daily Beast, The Indendent, The Guardian. Lots of clickbait, polarised reporting, and you can’t filter it.

Stephens was recruited specifically for outrage clicks. He has no other qualification. Probably some AI predicted he’s good for business and they went with it.

Why hasn’t YC created a solution to this problem?

Read through the comments on any NYT article for confirmation of this fact.

This is definitely the problem with the paid subscription model, it’s like clickbait on steroids. You’ve got to get people to click that buy button.
