My mother grew up in London during World War II. She was 6 when the war started, so she didn't remember much from before it. She said she was sad that the spirit of cooperation people had during the war disappeared after it. She didn't miss doodlebugs though.

UK tried with Welfare State to rebuild a land fit for heroes. NHS is still a standing tribute to that spirit.
