Something I told my 8 yo: If you do creative work, try to avoid situations where people with less ability than you can tell you what to do, or edit your work.

Or at least, try not to need money. Being rich solves that problem, but the other way to solve it, as many creative people have done throughout history, is to live inexpensively.

I started to live inexpensively since a while and put my money off working for me. I see improvements in my global wellbeing

If you have to work for someone who has less ability than you, at least work for someone who acknowledges your superior ability in the specific field that they are paying you to work in.

Lowering your cost of living is always good advice but requires some degree of financial success to be meaningful. Something many creatives find very difficult or a daily struggle.

This often requires some sacrifices for people you love as well, making it much harder than only thinking of yourself.

Creative work where the product can be consumed by many (ie reproduced cheaply) is always a challenge. If it can be digitally consumed, a relatively small number of the worlds best can satisfy most of the demand, and you need to be among them to compete.

Not needing to work for the money is the ideal state. Given my parental responsibilities it’s hard to achieve. I tell my kids to spend less and avoid financial responsibilities. This allows them to pursue their creative dreams.

That is so true ... we under-estimate the power of inexpensive living to free us up and be our true selves.
