I don’t understand people who seem to have a casual belief in the supernatural or ghosts. If I believed in goats, I feel like I would be scared *all the time*, not go about my life like everything is fine, because a ghost could come haunt me like whenever right?

Yes exactly! There were these religious people in college who said they thought they read that they found dinosaurs in Africa (defending Noah’s Ark), and I was like “if I thought that was the case I’d go there RIGHT NOW”. At least Big Foot hunters are consistent.

I mean, as a boring Christian, I believe in demons/demonic possessions, have no commitment one way or the other about whether the dead leave preternatural artifacts we sometimes experience as “ghosts,” and move along with my day because God tells us to not worry about that stuff.
-
There’s a bible verse that says “don’t worry about ghosts?”

I agree but like most stuff we might not have the technology to understand what a “ghost” is? (Might be some sort of energy matter) Who knows maybe there is some spiritual laws limiting ghosts to human exposure?

You have shown me many houses; but I ask you, where is the village? You have told me about many parts of the brain; but I ask you, where is the mind?

Two different perspectives... one who’s scared and one who is curious.

Stated versus revealed preferences, but for beliefs Stated belief: 'OMG Ghosts are totally real!' Revealed belief: *carries on with 99.9997% of daily life as if ghosts aren't real* Winner: revealed beliefs
-
Right! I can't believe I didn't think of that before: *revealed beliefs*. Now that's a concept that needed a word.

Most believers already know enough (/ a tad too much) about their fantastical subject matter. No need/courage to dig more.

That’s exactly what Carl Jung did and lots of interesting, spooky research came out of it:https://www.peterlang.com/view/9783631692516/chapter05.xhtml …
