I don't think that Silicon Valley has changed the NYT so much. The changes in the method of distribution are really pretty minor compared to the system of content generation, which has changed relatively little (for good or bad).
Sure, reporters use computers now instead of paper notebooks, but Silicon Valley has changed the reporting and editing functions of traditional newspapers remarkably little.
