I don't know how many times this needs to be said but it's driving me crazy at this point. If you are in SV talking a huge game about what's wrong with 'the media', what are you doing about it? where is the west coast version of the NYT that is 10x better?
One answer to that question is, you just used it. The internet + mobile phones + Twitter spreads news way more effectively than printing it on sheets of paper and delivering them in trucks.
A bit off topic, but this reminds me of there being an amount of data at which transporting it via physical drives in the mail is faster than the internet. I think it was applied for the black hole image research last year.

Not now. But since his question asks "where is the better SV alternative to the NYT?" I backed out SV's biggest contributions to the current NYT. Otherwise his question is meaningless, because the NYT is already mostly SV's NYT.

The @nytimes has a credibility and trustworthiness that the Internet, etc on its own is incapable of achieving. While far from perfect, the Times is a newspaper of record and has long been the bible of the establishment
