This is pure populism. We have many more serious problems to solve (housing, healthcare, education), but they're harder, and our politicians don't have the ambition. They're rather go for the headline-grabbing cheap shots.

these policies tend to come from ideologically extreme think pieces. it’ll be a white paper or book about an egregious abuse. It doesnt come from think tanks that convene diverse views. Diverse stakeholders with questions like yours create too much nuance for righteous crusades
