If we found aliens, how would we monitor them? Probably via satellite, or somewhere a bit further out in space. So that’s where we should be paranoidly looking in our own solar system.

The risks of alien intervention must be pretty constant throughout human history. I'd say we have enough recorded history to say odds are low of alien intervention in the next ten, fifty, hundred years. This is not true of AI which is more likely now than any time before.

Aliens could mean the end of us. So could runaway AI. But at least the AI would carry on the human legacy.
