Why is it that we’ll pay $39 a month for the millionth repeat of a fitness model doing squats and pushups but we won’t pay $10 a month for quality, daily journalism? I’m generalizing of course but I’m curious the psychology behind this.

I'd happily pay per article, what I won't do is pay to sign-up for a subscription at 20 different online newspapers to read a handful of their articles each month.

Not many people would pay per article too.

Journalism's business model now is: 1. You try to read an article. 2. They say you can't unless you sign up for a subscription that's impossible to cancel and will require you fill out a form with 20 fields, choose a strong password, etc. 3. You click on back.

The underlying "ugh" stopping per-article purchase is that nobody has cracked easy micro-transactions online yet. Seems like a solvable problem.

Or have a subscription (akin to Spotify) that gave you unlimited access to all paid-content

Don’t you need the top content providers which they’re not really incentivized to join? Or is that changed now.

Frictionless payment for news is just such a big opportunity

Sounds like a no-brainer but doesn’t work in practice. Most users opt not to pay when presented the option to. Micropayments will also cannibalize subscriptions revenue. Historical news micropayments companies (ie. blendle) have fallen flat for that reason

1. Need to gamify tipping for articles. Social proof. "You're a supporter of this site!" "You are a support Icon!" 2. Micro-Payment tech acceptance is needed. Incentivize me to have a micro-payments wallet/option.

#Bitcoin
#LightningNetwork is the perfect solution for this. I would definitely pay for quality journalism per article using internet money.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
