11 yo tried to get out of doing his math homework on the grounds that the questions were, technically, valid answers. I explained that what he's really doing, and what most math is, is transforming quantities to a more useful form.

Beg to differ on math isn't about quantities. Lebesgue (invented generalized integral) wrote a long rant on how wrong pedagogy of math can go for children if focus is not on quantities.
