The Selfish Gene and The Extended Phenotype are must-reads — some of the most important / influential biology literature of the 20th century. When I was an aspiring biochemist, The Selfish Gene turned a growing interest into an obsessive fascination with the systems of life.

Selfish Gene definitely fucked up with my sense of self and how I relate to the rest of nature. In the good way I should add. The Blind Watchmaker is also pretty great in that regard.

Richard Dawkins himself revisited the book a couple of years ago and debunked some of his own theories written in the Selfish Gene..

I read Medieval Technology and Social Change after seeing it on pg's website. Great read. Horse stirrups, who knew? I didn't quite grok the third section tbh, but I guess I'm in good company with the people discussed in the book.
