When your tweets are seen by a sufficiently large number of people, Twitter becomes an amazingly powerful Mechanical Turk for answering the question "What are all the ways this statement could be misrepresented?"

Does that incentivize more precise writing?

Precision is not enough unfortunately. Precise statements can be misrepresented. What you have to do to make a statement difficult to misrepresent is much more complicated. Maybe one day I'll write about this, since I have (unwillingly) become an expert in it.

Encode your tweets with a wheel cypher. That should keep out the clowns.

Is it even remotely possible with 280 characters? Need space for context, disclaimers, etc.

You may not be able to express ideas that are a sufficient combination of (a) subtle and (b) controversial. But you can express many ideas. I only get burned once every couple weeks.

obviously not just Trump bingo but any tweet is up against a lot of potential misinterpretation, intentional or otherwise.pic.twitter.com/1VsoLdOs2E

If the goal is awareness or spread of ideas, maybe it’s not such a bad thing to have a statement misrepresented? At least a misrepresented statement spreads and then more people are aware. Trump seems to be a master of this. At times it almost seems it’s deliberate.

"...you have to do to make a statement difficult to misrepresent is much more complicated." Well actually, there's an entire language already dedicated to doing exactly that. It's called math.

Precision may be enough to avoid accidental misinterpretation. But when dealing with an adversary who is knowingly or unknowingly intending to misinterpret you, it becomes necessary to consider their way of thinking and preemptively add safeguards.
