If the caps lock key didn't already exist and someone proposed it, it would seem like an insane idea.

It has been used for shouting for a long time. At least since the 1930s, and probably longer.

Also, people have been making LOL-like abbr since around 1870. Instead of a caps lock key, I would much prefer an acronym auto compiler/decompiler.

It was really odd for me to find an all caps email that my dad wrote to an internal Atari mailing list that is now online. When I asked him why it was all caps, he said his terminal didn't support lowercase. I believe him, but it also sounds like a very convenient excuse.

To really make your point, you need all-caps and manual underlining (added by backspacing and typing _s) source: https://lettersofnote.com/2010/08/05/the-tiger-oil-memos/ …pic.twitter.com/A9h7lBAwv2

Fortran programmers must have been really mad at their computers in 60s & 70s 😁

Actually, no Fortran programmer owned a computer in the 60s and 70s. And, yes they were mad at the computer they were working on because so many other people were working on it at the same time that they had to wait ages for anything to happen
