I'm teaching my 11 yo how to program. His great desire is to draw rude words on the screen. Ok. So we are gradually making a really powerful, well-designed (for Basic) rude word writer.

I got started with BASIC too but wonder if Python might not be better to get started with instead these days. Feel like it’s easier to demonstrate good programming practices with modern languages. BASIC is a good way to develop a feel for assembly though.

BASIC has always felt the easiest to get a feel for programming. They are learning to program, not learning a language. What gets you to "Hello World" the fastest?

I would argue scratch might have a lower T , especially if he has already studied they at school ( like my 10yo)
