I'm teaching my 11 yo how to program. His great desire is to draw rude words on the screen. Ok. So we are gradually making a really powerful, well-designed (for Basic) rude word writer.

You should show him Processing https://processing.org/  It has all the stuff a 11yo would be interested in programming.

Ha ! Beat me to it. Using Processing he could sketch all manner of rude objects doing rude things. I wish I had permission to do that again.

Reminds me of when in 7th grade, a friend of mine got in trouble at school for having a list of all the swear words on it. Turns out he wanted the list for a swear filter he wanted to code (he taught himself to code) and he wanted people to add all the words they knew to the list

Very interesting. could you explain the reasoning behind the choice of BASIC Please? I kind of have an idea but would appreciate your input. Thx. that was my first language too, a long time ago... but it didn’t occur to me to teach it to kids in 2020. Very Interesting.

Interesting you chose Basic. Any reason? Teaching my nearly 11 y.o. to program but in Python based on other’s suggestions.
