A lot of people think using Medium is a substitute for having your own blog. But there's a critical difference: no moderator can delete your posts from your own blog.

Agree . So what are some alternatives to Medium or is this start of new funding idea ?
-
Go to web hoster, register your own down name, set up a CMS (e.g. Wordpress) on your webspace (don’t use the cloud version of the CMS) and you’re done.

Agreed. But the decision to publish on your own blog is easier when you have an audience. Publishing on Medium can help you build an audience - presumably.
-
Agreed, though I started duplicating my Medium posts (granted, only a few public ones to date, but will continue as I post more) on my personal site for archival and wider viewing/sharing purposes.

Good point. By definition if they're censoring it must be in enforcement of groupthink. "Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in a dysfunctional decision-making outcome."

I used medium for a bit but then started my own blog. I didn't see any significant benefits of being on Medium.

Hey, how's the blog doing? I'm thinking of doing the same but not sure where to start, is Wordpress the best option?

I'm on medium but I also considered about having my own blog so right now I'm building my own website in Wordpress! There will be hard work trying to get audience to flock to my website but hey atleast only I can delete my content :)

I was wondering. Why is there no mention of your academic work on your website? https://dl.acm.org/profile/81100495535 …
-
Because that is not me.
