Are we memory-holing the specific reason for the ban? It wasn’t for just broaching the lab idea.pic.twitter.com/XmQ12HA0uX

There are two separate things happening here: shutting down their Twitter account, and flagging links to their site as dangerous. The former is arguably a justifiable punishment for giving the researcher's phone number. But how does this (mild) doxxing make the site dangerous?

"If it turns out that the coronavirus did escape from a lab in Wuhan, Twitter is going to owe ZeroHedge an apology" - I'm pointing out that the ToS violation had nothing to do with Twitter 'arbitrating truth' and getting it wrong, as the tweet implied & most of the replies echo'd

It's fine to ban an account for violating the ToS, but when Twitter flags any link to the site that anyone else posts on Twitter, especially using the language that they do, they're implying that the site is dangerous to users, not merely that its owners broke Twitter's rules.

Imagine if when HN banned a user, they also banned links to their site. That would either be a ridiculously draconian punishment, or would imply that there was something wrong with the site. If we assume Twitter is not ridiculously draconian, they're implying the site is bad.

...so they owe an apology depending on the outcome of the conspiracy, why?

If it turns out the virus escaped from a lab, then ZeroHedge was closer to the truth in January than most news outlets. Surely, if so, it will seem mistaken to have flagged links to their site.

I assume you mean there is evidence against the virus being engineered, but what we're talking about here is the possibility of a natural virus escaping from a lab.

I saw that Paul. The US leaked cabled where they said they mentioned pandemic danger as a possibility from a Wuhan lab in response to China's own accusations that the US brought it and the leap of faith where you lose me is where you say this is evidence that this did happen.

You will always be able to find someone saying something is a possiblity. I think that's pretty weak evidence of lab genesis and I bet somewhere there is a Chinese communication worrying about pandemics caused by the US.

Yup I saw that headline. The evidence was aired in discussion of that story. If it’s generated by the state department it’s further damage to US credibility

Bats carrying those viruses are found 900km south of Wuhan near Yunan/Guangdong province. So you would expect an outbreak there, unless of course someone were intentionally bringing those bat viruses to a lab in Wuhan or something. . . . . .

The bat virus from the Wuhan lab is *at least 20 years* evolutionary divergent from SARS-CoV-2. "Much like" is in reality not as close as you think: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.30.015008v1 …
