Mere rate of shipping new features is a surprisingly accurate predictor of startup success. In this domain, at least, slowness is way more likely to be due to inability than prudence. The startups that do things slowly don't do them any better. Just slower.

I think you’re right about this. Do you have any further insights about what specifically you’ve seen that helps the better startups move faster?
I think the high bit is simply the amount of drive and ability the founders have. It would feel unnatural to the Collisons to move slowly.

While true, founder speed only takes you so far. Ability and (more importantly) inclination to build an org that enables people to move fast ends up winning. Basically, lots of tech founders can't manage their way out of a paper bag.
