Well, then I have a feeling the @ClickUp_app team is gonna go faaaaaarrr! They're shipping new, awesome features literally. Every. Single. Week. It blows my damn mind!
Mere rate of shipping new features is a surprisingly accurate predictor of startup success. In this domain, at least, slowness is way more likely to be due to inability than prudence. The startups that do things slowly don't do them any better. Just slower.

Fast is a relative measure. If others don’t use C and they are faster, then perhaps C is no needed. And if it is, then it’s probably not what’s slowing you down.

Psychologically, these are independent variables. Would be really interesting to capture some data on this, because it’s entirely possible to do so. Could be a game changer for you.

would you say the same for hardware cos. where “mistakes” can be pretty costly?

Do what we in software do, break it down into the smallest thing you can make mistakes on in order to learn what is the right/better thing to do, granted hardware speed will be slower due to the nature of having to manage a supply chain, but I think the same principles apply.
