When I bought extra space for GMail, I got logged into a "google account" that I'm logged into even when I do searches. Searches are much slower logged in. And I'm not sure if I can log out without logging out of GMail. Solution: Use http://duckduckgo.com for search.
Here's another option that may be even better: http://startpage.com . It delivers actual Google search results, but without any of the extra crap on the page. In other words, it's like what Google used to be.

http://startpage.com seems to be significantly slower than http://google.com here in India. Poor server distribution in Asia maybe?

Hi Seyon, like many sites, search engines generate income from ads. Startpage, as a private search engine, generates its income from contextual advertising (ads based on your search query, not your personal data).
it gave me search results that are worse than duckduckgo. So I don't really think it's actual google results.
