When I bought extra space for GMail, I got logged into a "google account" that I'm logged into even when I do searches. Searches are much slower logged in. And I'm not sure if I can log out without logging out of GMail. Solution: Use http://duckduckgo.com for search.

I am curious to know what you think of DuckDuckGo as a service. As the OP mentioned, I find it slow and very difficult to get relevant results.
-
It's not as good as Google, but it's good enough for most searches.

Ads do suck. I can enable adblock plus in my incognito mode on Chrome but mileage may vary. I mught give DuckDuckGo another chance over the weekend. Thanks for the reminder
(and thanks for all the great essays!) -
uBlock Origin in Firefox works just great on Firefox.

You can set up an extension (such as an ad blocker) to work in incognito mode. I really want to use DDG but the results are not satisfactory, sometimes not even useful.

You know I am still banned on HN, right?

And yes I am still working on the problems described in my essay/overview.

You can actually turn on extensions that do ad blocking in incognito mode. Just go to the extension setting window.
