Don't worry about kids acquiring bad programming habits when they're first learning. The only habit that matters is the habit of programming. Tidiness can come later. Enthusiasm can't.

Do you think the complexity of setting up a GUI framework (header files, libraries, message queues, handling window messages etc.) takes away from the programming experience...as compared to BASIC where the only step needed to setup graphics mode is "SCREEN 2" ?
For sure! I've been using Basic on Replit, and there is none of this.
