Don't worry about kids acquiring bad programming habits when they're first learning. The only habit that matters is the habit of programming. Tidiness can come later. Enthusiasm can't.

C# on Unity3D is the way to go for most kids. Kids love games and 3D graphics. It breeds excitement and concrete utility to programming. Python on Raspberry Pi can be very exciting for the geekier ones.

I remember how I was told in grade school by Mrs.Fečová that I'll 'never be a programmer'. We were learning basic. She's right as, I have untreatable ADD but my high school graduation project was MFC app with some 3d visualisation and formula parser (didn't understand it truly).
